Uber, an American car Hailing company, released its financial report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2020 on Tuesday. According to the report, Uber’s revenue in the quarter ended March 31 was US $3.543 billion, up 14% compared with us $3.099 billion in the same period of last year, and the net loss attributable to Uber was US $2.936 billion, up 16% compared with us $1.012 billion in the same period of last year.
By business category, the revenue of Uber’s shared travel business in the first quarter was US $2.470 billion, up 2% compared with us $2.418 billion in the same period of last year, with a year-on-year growth of 4% excluding the impact of exchange rate changes; the revenue of Uber eats business was US $819 million, up 53% compared with us $536 million in the same period of last year, with a year-on-year growth not including the impact of exchange rate changes 56%; revenue of freight business is US $199 million, up 57% compared with us $127 million in the same period last year, and the impact of excluding exchange rate change is also up 57% compared with the same period last year; revenue of other bets business is US $30 million, up 66% compared with us $18 million in the same period last year, and the impact of excluding exchange rate change is up year-on-year 67%; the revenue of advanced technology group and other technology projects was US $25 million, which was not generated in the same period last year.
By region, Uber’s revenue from the United States and Canada in the first quarter was US $2.142 billion, up 13% from US $1.895 billion in the same period last year; from Latin America was US $497 million, up 10% from US $450 million in the same period last year; from Europe, the Middle East and Africa was US $552 million, up 4.87% in the same period last year Revenue from the Asia Pacific region was $352 million, up 32% from $267 million in the same period last year.
Uber’s first quarter bookings were $15.776 billion, up 8% from $14.649 billion in the same period last year, with a 10% year-on-year increase excluding the impact of exchange rate changes. By business category, the booking volume of the shared travel business is US $10.874 billion, down 5% compared with us $11.446 billion in the same period of last year, and the impact of excluding exchange rate changes is 3% lower than the same period of last year; the booking volume of Uber eats business is us $4.683 billion, up 52% compared with us $3.071 billion in the same period of last year, and the impact of excluding exchange rate changes is higher than the same period of last year 54%; the booking volume of freight business is US $198 million, an increase of 55% compared with us $128 million in the same period of last year, and the impact of excluding exchange rate changes is also a year-on-year increase of 55%; the booking volume of other bets business is US $21 million, compared with us $4 million in the same period of last year.
Uber’s monthly number of active platform consumers was 103 million in the first quarter, up 11% from 93 million in the same period last year. Uber’s total number of trips in the first quarter was 1.658 billion, up 7% from 1.550 billion in the same period last year.
Uber’s total cost and revenue in the first quarter was $4.806 billion, compared with $4.133 billion in the same period last year. Of which, the cost of revenue was $1.786 billion, compared with $1.681 billion in the same period last year; the expenditure of operation and support was $503 million, compared with $434 million in the same period last year; the expenditure of sales and marketing was $885 million, compared with $1.040 billion in the same period last year; the expenditure of research and development was $645 million, compared with $4.09 in the same period last year US $0.1 billion; general and administrative expenditure was US $859 million, compared with us $423 million in the same period last year; depreciation and amortization expenditure was US $128 million, compared with us $146 million in the same period last year.
